Hence, you pilot a helicopter and you have to shoot everything that shoots back at you, it’s as simple as that. You do not even have to worry about piloting the helicopter, as long as you remember to accelerate every once in a while. The story talks about a Russian scientific breakthrough, which allows them to build a functioning time machine and have its power at their disposal. Because nothing else came to mind, they decide to use the machine in order to send an attack helicopter back during the first World War, in order to change the past and decimate their enemies, thus building a better future for Russia. It doesn’t make too much sense, but not a lot of emphasis is put on it anyway.
