Battle Realms, on the other hand, features a more mystical approach to these wars, by including powerful wizards, barbarian clans and the mighty ninjas, all of which clash against each other in deadly skirmishes. Although the game uses pure real-time strategy mechanics, it also incorporates a couple of modifications to the standard model, which are meant to diversify the gameplay and give you a few more options when it comes to the tactics used to defeat your enemies. Thus, while the central idea still revolves around the classic resource gathering/army building gimmick, there are a few modifications to the way your units function. To start off with, peasants, which are the basic gathering and builder units, are automatically generated by your main building at certain time intervals. The battle units, on the other hand, cannot be created in the conventional way, since they are actually trained peasants. Hence, your army must be trained, not built, which is a very ingenious addition to the gameplay and gives you plenty of options, while also forcing you to make some important decisions when it comes to sparing workers in order to gain military strength.
