As with all online gaming services, you log on and enter a big chat room, then select a game and find other players willing to play the same game with you. Mplayer offers a variety of multi-player games including Quake, Command and Conquer, Mechwarrior 2, Terminal Velocity, Warcraft, and many others.
MPlayer features real-time speech that's already integrated with most of the games. With voice conferencing, players can arrange matches, beg for mercy in the heat of battle, or debrief after the smoke clears. For members without a microphone, MPlayer also offers traditional text chat. Players in the same Game Lobby or Game Room can type messages to each other. Another unique feature of MPlayer is "ScribbleTalk", a shared whiteboard equipped with tools for drawing lines, shapes and text in color. You can map out your team's attack across deserts and solar systems with ScribbleTalk, and take your games to a higher level.
Other features of MPlayer include an "Automatch" option that lets you cut through the chat and instantly find someone ready to play; locked game rooms to conduct strategy sessions in private; "Paging" that lets you send a private message to invite, communicate, or taunt others; "Portraits" to let everyone on Mplayer know who you are with a portrait and profile; and more.
Mplayer is currently available in the continental United States and the metropolitan areas of southern Canada.
